Last Christmas at Joseph’s Wigs, we gave our customers the opportunity to share their wig wearing stories and inspire others on their hair loss journey. Today, we share Kristina’s story and learn how wearing a wig helped her regain a part of her life she thought she had lost, despite having doubts at the beginning.
Kristina’s journey with wigs for Alopecia
Having been a long-term sufferer of Alopecia, it took Kristina a long time to find the confidence to wear a wig. But, since finding Joseph’s Wigs, things have changed for the better, and in Kristina’s words, ‘Her confidence has blossomed.’
She bravely opened up to us about her experience and hopes to share a strand of brightness with others going through a similar journey.
When did you start wearing your wig?
“I started wearing wigs 14 years ago.”
Did you have any hesitations about wearing wigs for the first time?
“Before I bought my first wig, I was concerned that people would know that it was a wig or if it would blow off in the wind.”
It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by the concept of a wig, let alone how to put it on securely. Here are our top tips for putting on a wig day to day so that it’s secure and comfortable.
How many wigs do you have in your collection?
“At least 4!”
How often do you replace your wigs?
“I wear wigs daily, so I tend to replace my wigs once every three months in order to keep them looking fresh. This also gives me a great opportunity to change up my style slightly.”
Which is your go-to, human hair wigs or synthetic hair wigs?
“I tend to prefer synthetic hair because the fibres stay true to the style after washing. Overall, I find the general upkeep is easier. However, I do love using wigs with HD fibres and with these, I use a steamer to keep them fresh. If I had to pick a favourite, I would have to say the Joseph’s Wigs line of Amore styles.”
If you are unsure about the differences between human hair and synthetic wigs we’ve put together a handy guide which will ensure you find the perfect wig for your needs.
What advice would you give to someone who is new to the world of wigs?
“My advice to new wig wearers is to understand the features of a wig, including the size, cap construction and colour palette. Something that is hugely helpful to me is watching wig review videos online. This is a great way of seeing the wigs on people at all angles as well as the colour of the wigs in different lights.”
