Frequently Asked Questions

When first receiving your wig in the post, it's normal to feel a little overwhelmed. Wearing a wig maybe something completely new to you, however, there's no need to worry. At Joseph’s Wigs, we completely understand your confusion and love to help wig wearers feel at ease with the whole process, no matter what stage of the journey you're at.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to put on a wig and watch the video demonstration.

Washing a wig plays a key role in wig maintenance to ensure long-lasting quality and to maintain its initial shine. Using a wig washing kit, shampoo and condition the wig thoroughly, rinse the wig with clean water after each step. Then, once cleaned, place the wig onto a styling head (which you can anchor down using a suction wig clamp holder) and begin brushing the wig gently from the ends of the hair to the crown. Finally, leave the wig to dry and it’ll begin to adopt its natural style again.

For more detailed explanations, read our guides on how to wash your wigs:

The price of a wig can range anywhere between £65.00 - £3,000.00, depending on whether you choose to buy a human hair wig or synthetic wig. If you're looking for a longer-lasting wig solution, ideal for medical reasons, then we would suggest investing in a human hair wig for the most natural and comfortable look possible. However, if you're looking for a temporary wig to try new styles, for example, then opt for a synthetic wig that's lower in cost.

Choosing the right wig size for you will depend on your head circumference. This can be determined by measuring your head for a wig correctly using a flexible measuring tape. Read our page on how to measure your head for a wig and watch our video demonstration.

Synthetic wigs are made with fibre strands to simulate the natural appearance of human hair. Although synthetic wigs are man-made, advanced technology means they're created almost parallel to the quality of real hair.

Human hair wigs are crafted from harvested human hair which means the wigs feel, look and move just like a natural head of hair.

Washing your human hair wig is much like washing your natural head of hair. Using a human hair wig washing kit, shampoo and condition the wig thoroughly and rinse the wig with clean water after each step. Once dabbed, dry with a towel to avoid water droplets, secure the wig onto a styling head and a suction wig clamp holder and gently start brushing it through from the ends of the hair to the crown. Finally, leave the wig to dry and allow it to adopt its natural style again.

Human hair wigs can range anywhere between £500 - £3000 as they’re extremely high quality and crafted using the finest real human hair available; they don’t need to be replaced as regularly as synthetic wigs. Hundreds of hours are spent delicately handcrafting human hair wigs, which is also why prices are higher.

The process of crafting a real human hair wig is intricate and requires high skill, time and attention to detail:

  1. The human hair wig is prepared, ensuring each strand is facing the right direction.
  2. The foundation of the wig is then formed and layered to a mould with fine mesh silk netting to match the hair colour of the wig.
  3. The hair is then knotted, meaning each individual hair strand is attached to the foundation by hand. A full wig requires 30,000 to 40,000 knots.
  4. Finally, the wig is styled to suit the desired look.

Learn more about how human hair wigs are made.

Human hair wigs are made of extremely high-quality materials which require adequate care to ensure the wig stays looking healthy, full and natural. They should be cared for using human hair wig maintenance products, and they should be stored and handled properly for a lasting look.
