ON

A new year brings hope and new resolutions. Why not make it one of your new year’s resolutions to mix it up a little this year? Exude confidence and experiment with a different style of wig you haven’t tried before. We’re here to bring you some of the top wig trends for 2023 and our top styling tips.

6 Wig Trends This Year

Play around with colour

Choosing a coloured wig gives you the wow factor as soon as you walk in the door. Wigs in traditional colours such as brown and blonde are gorgeous, but there’s just something about a brightly coloured wig that will give you instant confidence. You may want to chop and change styles from day to night and a coloured wig gives you the option to do just that.

Our top picks of coloured wigs include the stylish Shane wig from Rene of Paris Hi-Fashion, available in a baby pink and a vibrant plumberry, the Layla wig that comes in a range of colours including pastel-blue and the Lush Wavez wig.

Sleek & straight styles

Sleek and straight is a style that suits most face shapes and for this reason, this trend is here to stay. And, if you choose a human hair wig or heat-friendly wig, you can change this wig style up easily if you want something different for the day, giving you endless options.

The Blake wig from Jon Renau is one of our favourites for 2023 and comes in various stunning shades. We’re also loving the Mesmerised wig from Raquel Welch.

Loose waves

Waves are not just for the beach! They’re a wig trend to watch out for this year. The beauty of a wavy wig is that it can really frame your face and accentuate your best features. They’ll take you from day to night too.

Some of our bestsellers are wigs that feature loose waves such as the Heidi wig and Sarah wig. Both of these are from the Jon Renau Cascading Colour Collection.

Go short

We all love convenience and ease. And that’s why short wigs are so great and are a big staple in wig designer collections for 2023. The Mono Jazz wig from Jon Renau is a low-maintenance style and is one of our bestsellers too.

Other short wig styles we’re loving for 2023 are the Wyatt wig, Ignite wig and the Tamaki wig, all of these will make you feel like a million dollars!

Retro styles

Inspired by fashion week, we’re seeing retro hairstyles make a comeback and wig designers are following suit. There’s something nostalgic about styles coming back into fashion so add a retro wig to your collection.

The Marvel human hair wig from Ellen Wille has a 90s feel to it and could be mistaken for Jennifer Aniston’s hairstyle of that decade.

Stay natural

A natural wig is the best option if you’re looking for a sustainable option to wear on a daily basis. Choosing a wig that is similar to your natural colouring or that has highlights or lowlights will complement your features and bring out the best in you, but don’t be afraid to play around with different styles and cuts. A wig supplier such as Joseph’s Wigs will help you choose the best wig for your budget and style.

Wig Styles Inspired by Celebrities

It’s no secret that celebrities are partial to a wig. Celebrities love to regularly mix up their look and wigs offer the flexibility to do just that. From Beyonce to Stacey Solomon to the Kardashians. You may love them or hate them, but we can still take inspiration from the wigs they wear and what’s hot right now.

From natural wigs to bubble-gum pink looks to waves, check out just some of the wig styles the Kardashians wear.

Styling Your Wig

Most wigs come pre-styled but that’s not to say you can’t style them in various ways to look and feel your best. Synthetic and human hair wigs should be cared for differently which may impact the styles you try.  For example, straighteners or curling tongs can be used on heat-friendly or human-hair wigs, but no heat should be used on synthetic wigs.

Our top styling tip for 2023 is to play around with braids. Whether you own a human hair or synthetic wig, most braids require little to no heat and will add something extra to your look to help you stand out from the crowd. It’s another style that has been featured on catwalks around the globe and, what’s great is there are countless options from the classic 3-strand braid to the fishtail plait.

Synthetic vs human-hair wigs

The cost of living will continue to be a real crisis in 2023. For some, wearing a wig is nice to have, but for others, it's a necessity. We're likely to see people become even more price-conscious in 2023, but luckily, wigs vary massively in cost. Human hair wigs do tend to be more expensive and provide longevity, synthetic wigs are budget-friendly but still provide the quality to match.
