About Us

We operate on an appointment only basis with private fitting rooms and hundreds of wigs for women and men to try in store. We offer many different types of ladies wigs, hairpieces and men's toupees including synthetic and human hair wig types, as well as monofilament, lace front, hand-tied and machine wefted wig cap constructions to customers throughout the UK. For those further afield, we also stock thousands of stunning ready-to-wear wigs on our online store.

Our Story

Our story began when the company was established in the 1960s by Barbara Wells, having completed her apprenticeship in the West End of London in the late 1950s. Claire Cullip, Barbara’s niece, become the Head Consultant and took over the day to day running of Joseph's Wigs, having started as a Saturday girl over 17 years ago. 

Claire decided to take the plunge and fully take over the business after her mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. Claire and Stuart then saw first-hand how traumatic it was to lose your hair and the limited choice available to those in the situation of having to find a wig. Claire and Stuart now manage Joseph's Wigs together as husband and wife duo.

As official suppliers to the National Health Service (NHS), we see many patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment or suffering from alopecia. We know about wigs and how they are made and we have extensive experience in all types of wigs, hairpieces and toupees both custom and ready-made human hair and synthetic wigs.

We pride ourselves on the fact that as wig makers we are able to offer a discreet, professional and compassionate service in a comfortable environment within a private fitting room which will help you make the right choice for you. It can be a very daunting prospect having to choose a wig and there are many types to choose from such as monofilament, machine wefted, human hair and synthetic.

We expect you’ll have many questions and concerns. In our appointments we cover every aspect of wearing a wig, including how to put it on and how to wash and care for it etc. We will also answer any questions you have, no matter how trivial and silly you’re worried they may sound! Genuine Human Hair Wigs for Men and Women

As wig makers by trade we believe that if you want to get the most natural-looking wig then a human hair wig may be the one for you. We offer a custom made service where a wig is custom designed and made specifically for you or you can take a look at our range of ready-made human hair wigs where each one is carefully tied by hand, to create a lifelike wig that really turns heads!

Because human hair has a scale-like growth direction, and any hairs put into the wig upside down will cause tangling, each strand must be carefully sorted to ensure there’s not a hair out of place. Once this is done, the hair is woven into the cap by hand, a few strands at a time, and then knotted precisely and securely to generate the most realistic growth effect possible. Hand-tied wigs take time and effort, but they’re worth it!

Caring for Your Human Hair Wig

Care for your human hair wig the way you would your own hair: carefully brush and shampoo your wig to keep it in its original, beautiful condition. We recommend wig shampoo for best results as they have been specifically formulated for this purpose.

We sell human hair wigs for men and for women, as well as human hair extensions to complete your look. If you’re worried about people knowing you wear a hairpiece, or you just want an extra-genuine looking wig, human hair is a great option to ensure you look and feel your best.
