How do you wear a wig if you have hair?

Short wigs are suitable for everyone, regardless of whether you have long hair, short hair or no hair. However, if you have longer locks, putting on a wig may appear a challenging task. Read our guide and learn how to wear a wig with hair, in a few easy-to-follow steps. Alternatively, you can watch our informative video below.

Which face shape is best for short hair?

Anyone can look good in a short wig, but it’s about finding the style that works best for your face shape. Here are our recommendations based on different face shapes:

Heart Shaped

A heart shaped face will typically have a larger forehead, tapering down gradually to a point at the chin. Your face shape may also feature standout cheekbones and a slender chin. To compliment these features we recommend a wispy, sweeping side fringe with natural layers.

Square Shaped

A square-shaped face typically has a wider hairline and jawline. If you have a square shaped face, we recommend a shoulder-length cut to soften the sharpness of your look and compliment your already striking appearance.

Oval Shaped

If your face is longer than it is wide, with a rounded chin and jawline, you have an oval shaped face. This face shape is fortunate to suit a plethora of different styles. However, we recommend avoiding heavy styles or fringes with lots of direction as these may add weight to your face.

Round Shaped

Round-shaped faces tend to have soft features, a wide hairline and short in length, with the widest part of the face being the cheekbones. Face shapes of this kind suit pixie cuts as the voluminous top helps to visually elongate the face.

How do you secure a short wig?

Alongside the correct care and maintenance, wig tape is one of the most effective ways to keep a short wig in place whilst offering a natural look. Wig tape is double sided, transparent and can be used to attach most monofilament wigs (but not all) or toupees securely and comfortably, leaving no residue.

How do you wear a short wig with short hair?

Short human hair wigs offer more versatility than their synthetic counterparts as you can style them in a variety of ways including curling, straightening, worn loose or natural. You can even have your hair stylist cut and colour your real hair wig.

Whilst synthetic short wigs aren’t usually heat-friendly, they add a seemingly natural, high-quality touch that never loses shape, poise or colour, meaning very little styling is required.

On the whole, short wigs can be worn and styled to your preference, but as with every wig, it’s important to use the correct wig maintenance products to ensure it stays full-bodied and lush.
