Choosing the right wig for you is something that should take care and consideration. We are proud to offer a range of human hair wigs for the stylish lady but whether you’re looking for a human hair wig or a high-quality synthetic wig, it’s important to pick a wig that’s comfortable and flattering. Here’s everything you need to know about finding the perfect wig.

Determine Your Face Shape

It’s impossible to work out whether the wig you’ve chosen will suit your face shape if you don’t know what your face shape is. Stand in front of the mirror and look directly at your face, then draw a ring around it on the mirror using something that will wipe away easily, such as a dry erase marker, bar of soap, or a lipstick.

If the shape you are left with is narrower at the jaw than the forehead and if the length of your face is around one and half times the width of your face then you have an oval face shape. The good news is that symmetrical oval faces are the easiest to dress, because almost all wig styles will suit your face. The store is your oyster!

If you have a very long and narrow bone structure then you have an oblong shaped face. Women with oblong face shapes also have long and thin necks too. If this is your face shape then you would benefit from looking for a wig with a soft fringe. This will help to shorted the appearance of your face. Curls and waves are also a great choice for you because they will add volume to the side of your head. This will help to create balance by making your face look wider.

People with a heart shaped face have a narrow chin and a wide forehead. The best wigs to suit this face shape are ones with subtle layers. Try to choose a wig that fits closely to your head to avoid making it look wider, and avoid short wigs that will make your chin look more pronounced.

Finally, if the shape on your mirror closely resembles a circle then it is likely that you have a round face. Round faces are generally characterised by wide foreheads and fullness below the cheekbones. If you’re looking for a wig to complement a round face then you should look for one that has a high crown to add height to your face. Long hair styles are also a great fit. Adding length close to your cheeks will make your face look narrower, whilst anything that will add width along the sides of your face (such as curls) should be avoided.

Choosing the Right Colour

If you want your wig to look as natural as possible then you should choose a colour that complements your natural hair colour or one that would enhance your skin tone and your original style. Whilst Kim Kardashian’s famous long blonde wig might look fantastic on her, it certainly doesn’t look natural with her skin tone and eye colour.

If you want to step away from your natural hair colour but still choose a wig that looks realistic and suits your skin tone, pick a hair piece in a shade that your hair could naturally achieve. This will typically be no more than two to three shades lighter than your natural hair colour. This might be the colour your hair was when you were younger and spent a summer enjoying the sun. A few shades darker than your usual hair colour can also be a nice change, particularly to set the tone for the winter fashion season. If you’re not sure about what colours or highlights would look best on you, why not ask your hair stylist? She or he will be able to advise you on the type of colour that would best suit you.

When thinking about the colour of your wig, remember that you’ll need to maintain that colour. That means using speciality shampoo and conditioner that is designed for your type of wig. Even natural human hair wigs need wig shampoo to protect their shape, colour, and individual strands of hair. Remember that hair that grows from the scalp constantly receives oils from the scalp to keep it conditioned. The cap that is used for the structure of the wig also requires special care in order keep it looking and fitting its best for as long as possible.
